We hiked some of the AT this weekend!!
Starting near the New york New jersey Boarder off of 17a
There is Jamie ready for a hike!
And that is Me!
Notice the amount off wool we both are wearing.
We head north like we always do. Why north? i don't know we always start going North, it just always seems right.
The next few shots are what i took during the first mile or so...
WE GOT TO SEE OUR FIRST AT SHELTER!! Blue Blazes ahead.
Glad to see the Blue Blazes brought on a nice Vista for us to point at. :)
and at last...
it seemed really creepy to us, i ran ahead to get the next shot this is Jamie's first look inside..
We ate some GORP and read the log book. both of us finding it weird and creepy and also couldn't figure out why people wew cooking food right where they were sleeping, and why the at people would build a shelter with a fire pit less than 10 feet from the shelter...
Jamie has had enough, its time to move on...
Black diamond quantum 55 we think its the best
and those hiking poles, we cant tell if we like using them but we have found a new way of tying them to the bag.
More walking!!!!
This is where the AT meets up with the Highlands Trail. The Highlands trail is a 150 mile long trail from the Delaware river to the Hudson valley.
We tighten up our boots before we descend down to the first road crossing
Warwick and I think the road is 93 seemed like a road worth crossing
The trick to camping where your not supposed to is to fallow these rules, but that is a bad reason to fallow them, we try to leave the smallest foot print possible.
Through a swamp and toards the next "mountain"
Power lines always make me feel so small
Horray a water fall
if you look to the right you will see Jamie waving
We climbed a hill and found this dried up lake
And the View
And Jamie Pointing at it...
Up that hill down it and on to the Next but before that a road crossing and a swampy area
after the descent and a road crossing what would there be? another hill to climb.
and a summit nearing dusk made it time to break for camp
My tent:
Sleeping gear:
Jamie's Tarp:
and sleeping gear
DINNER
beef Jerky Pea soup from a mix with a side of flaked potatoes raised our blood sugar while the two beers raised the moral
A night of rain and we both wake dry warm and well rested
Notice how dry the sleeping area is
Time for Breakfast
After a quick look at the map we establish the days hike and estimate how long it will take to get to the car and off we go
Down
And back up again
The day got nice and sunny and we dried out a bit
Meeting up with the highland trail we head south
Crossing the power lines again
and when the highland trail met up with the "wooded road" as our map described it we made a right heading west towards the car, as it turned out this road had been turned into a gas pipeline
After double checking the map we figure we have to get to the crest of the next hill to relink with the AT and get to the car.
so down we go
super steep and hard on the ankles.
they put fist sized rocks down and then a layer of hey so it loks all soft and smooth.
but its not and its really steep.
and this is the last photo, Jamie climbing the last bit you can see where we came from the top of the hill behind him
until next time happy trails
