This exciting new music video features a short overnight trip we took , 8.5 miles deep into eastern Pennsylvania to try out new gear and new styles. It has been a long winter. We had hoped to be on our way to the trail head in southern New Mexico by now, but the tides of fate and finance have forced us to push back our continental divide through hike until next year at least. Everything we do can't be about that one massive expedition, and the Appalachians are just a few miles up the interstate from our front door. Postings soon to be published will feature us making moves for Colorado, making money, and logging miles on a few high altitude sections of the CDT.

Whats been going on....

New Mexico Mapped out

I am learning how to use the Google eath software better.
Here is the CDT as it goes through New Mexico. According to the files i downloaded at This amazing web site.
I have placed Pins at our re supply locations.

These will either be places we stop to buy new food or pick up a premailed package full of wholesome goodies.

You'll probably notice that we don't plan to start our hike at the Mexican Boarder this is for many reasons. One reason being, we don't want to contact border patrol to request permission to walk from the actual boarder, and it is kind of dangerous to walk around there because of the current political standings the new beefy border line.
The other main reason we are starting a few hundred miles north of the boarder is water, we don't have desert experience, we might get too thirsty, so starting further north we will be near more water and not so surrounded in desert.

yeah so please enjoy if you have Google earth and want to download the kmz file from me drop a comment and ill send it out.

We hiked some of the AT this weekend!!
Starting near the New york New jersey Boarder off of 17a

Photobucket
There is Jamie ready for a hike!

Photobucket
And that is Me!
Notice the amount off wool we both are wearing.
Photobucket
We head north like we always do. Why north? i don't know we always start going North, it just always seems right.

The next few shots are what i took during the first mile or so...

Photobucket

Glad to see the Blue Blazes brought on a nice Vista for us to point at. :)
Photobucket

and at last...
Photobucket

it seemed really creepy to us, i ran ahead to get the next shot this is Jamie's first look inside..
Photobucket
Photobucket
We ate some GORP and read the log book. both of us finding it weird and creepy and also couldn't figure out why people wew cooking food right where they were sleeping, and why the at people would build a shelter with a fire pit less than 10 feet from the shelter...
Photobucket
Jamie has had enough, its time to move on...

Photobucket
Black diamond quantum 55 we think its the best
and those hiking poles, we cant tell if we like using them but we have found a new way of tying them to the bag.

More walking!!!!

Photobucket
This is where the AT meets up with the Highlands Trail. The Highlands trail is a 150 mile long trail from the Delaware river to the Hudson valley.
Photobucket

We tighten up our boots before we descend down to the first road crossing
Photobucket
Photobucket
Warwick and I think the road is 93 seemed like a road worth crossing
Photobucket
The trick to camping where your not supposed to is to fallow these rules, but that is a bad reason to fallow them, we try to leave the smallest foot print possible.
Photobucket
Through a swamp and toards the next "mountain"
Photobucket
Power lines always make me feel so small
Photobucket

Horray a water fall
if you look to the right you will see Jamie waving

We climbed a hill and found this dried up lake

Photobucket

And the View

Photobucket

And Jamie Pointing at it...
Photobucket

Up that hill down it and on to the Next but before that a road crossing and a swampy area

Photobucket

after the descent and a road crossing what would there be? another hill to climb.

Photobucket

and a summit nearing dusk made it time to break for camp

DINNER
Photobucket
beef Jerky Pea soup from a mix with a side of flaked potatoes raised our blood sugar while the two beers raised the moral

A night of rain and we both wake dry warm and well rested
Photobucket

Notice how dry the sleeping area is

After a quick look at the map we establish the days hike and estimate how long it will take to get to the car and off we go
Photobucket
Down
Photobucket
Photobucket

And back up again

Photobucket

The day got nice and sunny and we dried out a bit
Photobucket

Meeting up with the highland trail we head south
Photobucket

Crossing the power lines again

Photobucket
Photobucket

Photobucket

and when the highland trail met up with the "wooded road" as our map described it we made a right heading west towards the car, as it turned out this road had been turned into a gas pipeline
Photobucket

After double checking the map we figure we have to get to the crest of the next hill to relink with the AT and get to the car.

Photobucket

so down we go
Photobucket

super steep and hard on the ankles.
they put fist sized rocks down and then a layer of hey so it loks all soft and smooth.
but its not and its really steep.

and this is the last photo, Jamie climbing the last bit you can see where we came from the top of the hill behind himPhotobucket

until next time happy trails
